Is the IMAT exam in English?

Yes, the test is used to assess scientific knowledge (maths, physics, biology and chemistry), logic and general knowledge, but it also evaluates the student’s level of English language, given that the degree program is entirely in English.

Which Italian universities offer degree courses in Medicine and Surgery in English?

At the moment, the academic program for Medicine and Surgery in English is offered by the Universities of Bari, Bologna, Messina, Milan and Milan Bicocca, Pavia, Rome La Sapienza, Rome Tor Vergata, University of Naples Federico II and the Second University of Naples Vanvitelli and the University of Turin.

How many places are available for degree courses in Medicine in English in Italy?

The degree course in Medicine and Surgery in English is difficult to get into and in 2019, the number of places available was 761, divided between the universities as follows:

- Bari University: 42 places

- Bologna University: 75 places

- Milan University: 34 places

- Milan Humanitas University: 150 places

- Bicocca Milan University: 22 places

- Milan S. Raffaele: 36 places

- University of Rome Sapienza: 38 places

- University of Rome Tor Vergata: 25 places

- University Cattolica del Sacro Cuore: 20 places

- "Campus Bio-Medico" Rome: 40 places

- University of Naples Federico II: 15 places

- Second University of Naples Vanvitelli: 40 places

For this reason, we offer a specific English language preparation course to ensure the students pass the IMAT entrance test.

How many questions is the IMAT test made up of?

The IMAT admissions test consists of 30 questions divided as follows:

  • 8 questions on maths and physics;
  • 20 questions of logical reasoning;
  • 18 biology questions;
  • 12 chemistry questions;
  • 2 questions of general knowledge.

The questions are multiple choice (with 5 possibilities and only 1 right answer).
The test has a maximum duration of 100 minutes.
The maximum total score is 90 points.

The answers are assessed as follows:
1.5 points for each correct answer;
-0.4 points for each wrong answer;
0 points for each question not answered.

What is the registration deadline for the IMAT test?

The IMAT test will be on September 10th 2021. Students can enroll from 1st to 23rd July.

Registration must be done online together with the payment of the registration fee.

The IMAT test in the English language can be taken in 13 Italian universities:
